The Verse for today is Psalm 27:1 "The Lord is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?"
Are you afraid of the dark? Yes, we all are to some extent or another. Some are scared of pitch darkness, some of shadows, some of us are afraid of the evil darkness reminds them of. We all have had that moment, late at night and we hear something, we grab something a bat, a stick, a pan. But we all do the same thing, we turn on the lights. Why is that? Because we are all afraid of the dark!
What is dark anyway? The Webster's Dictionary defines dark as - devoid of light. How else can we define it? I once read an email about an urban legend with Albert Einstein debunking a professor. The interesting part was the part on darkness. "Darkness is in fact simply the absence of light. Light can be studied, darkness can not. Darkness cannot be broken down. A simple ray of light tears the darkness and illuminates the surface where the light beam finishes. Dark is a term that we humans have created to describe what happens when there's lack of light."
I liked the last part, we humans created a word to describe the lack of light - dark. The lack of light is the lack of God. When we say everything will come into the light someday. How right we are nothing can hide from God. Not even in the darkness. Whom shall we fear?
David is speaking of a fear he has and he gets pretty graphic. From devouring of flesh to evil men attacking him. What was his comfort? The Lord!!!
The Lord was his light and his salvation - so what could happen with God around. If God is our light, we are never in the dark. Then, David said if I can ask one thing of the Lord, that I may dwell in the house of the Lord forever. He was saying, If I am to go, if this is going to be the end of me, just make it so I am with you Lord. The Lord was his salvation. That is what made David so fearless that he could face off with the giant Goliath. David knew he was is a win/win situation every day. Now our days are not as extreme has David's were in battle, but we all have our bad days.
But seriously, what is the worse that could happen? We go home to be with the Lord sooner. How is that the bad news? Now I am not saying I want to go home right yet, none of us do. That is because we don't know what we are missing. If you think the test run on earth is good, just wait for the main event.
Be Fearless and Quiet No More.
Your Brother in Christ,
Trey
