Who was your protector as a child? My daughter said to me the other day, "Dad, your lucky you have three dad's." My first reply was, What? She said you have Grandpa Butch, Pop-Pop, and God. How right she was. I had three dad's
I remember back to my first memory of fear. I was 4 yrs old on my Big Wheel riding up and down Dylan Drive, when two bigger kids were playing catch and said if I crossed there path I would be in trouble. I was 4 , I only knew one way home and it was on the sidewalk. I was scared of these big bully kids. Well , being the wild child I was, I went for it and pow boom bang baseball right in the eye. I ran home and told my dad. Next thing I remember was my dad coming home with a baseball and two kid gloves. That wasn't going to happen again. My Dad, "Grandpa Butch", took away my fear.
When I was 7 my Mother was remarried and I had another dad. The One who provided me with a biological dad had supplied me a dad to step in when needed, hence the word step-dad. A Step-dad is not a bad word, it is a great concept invented by God Himself. Ever hear of a man named Joseph...Jesus' Step-Dad.
Then came the time I learned to ride my bike. I was scared I would fall and hurt myself without my training wheels. My Step-Dad "Pop-Pop" said, I am right behind you and I won't let anything happen to you. Next thing I know I am cruise down Downs Lane solo. I had all the confidence in the world. I knew my Dad had my back.
Then comes the time of adulthood. My fears seem so much more complicated now. I have a wife and three children, and my problems are too large for my earthly fathers to fix. I have a mortgage, car payments, job stress, protecting my children and my wife from home. What happens if something happens to me? I am the dad now, I need to help take away my children's fears. That is my fear, what if I fail.
Then my daughter reminded me of my other dad, God. As a child you cry out to your dad when you were hurt or needed help. In the dark of night as a child who was it that you cried out for when you were afraid. So why is God any different. The Fearless Factor for the day is Lamentations 3:57 "You came near when I called you and you said, "Do not fear".
Do not Fear, God Almighty is here. All you have to do is call out to him.
Be Fearless and Quiet No More.
